A lot of families across WA state enjoy going to the coast for various reasons, including razor clam season. But this month, it's been delayed.

WA Dept of Fish and Widlife Pumps Brakes on Razor Clam Season

The recreational razor clam season was due to begin October 9th and run through the 14th. but a health hazard has pushed that back TFN.  According to the Dept.:

"Test results on razor clams indicate domoic acid levels are trending upward or have exceeded the health guidelines set by the Washington State Department of Health (DOH) officials for safe consumption."

This Affects all Razor Clam Digging

The toxic bloom is working its way up the coastline and beach, having previously affected areas in Oregon including Long Beach, Twin Harbors and Clatsop Beach,  In previous years, this kind of toxic compound interrupted or canceled the season in 2020-2021, 2022-2023 late fall season, and some other full or partial seasons as well.

WDFW says some lower levels of clams were being found at some of the locations, meaning digging seasons, if they resume, would be shorter than other seasons.
