In an unexpected move, the City of Richland Police Chief has turned in his resignation, effective Friday, January 28th, 2022.

RICHLAND CHIEF CAME TO CITY FROM TEXAS IN 2019

Chief John Bruce came here in 2019, according to the City:

"Bruce was hired as Richland’s Police Chief in June of 2019. He came to Richland from Frisco, Texas, where he worked his way through the ranks for over 33 years. He was named Police Chief of Frisco in January 2013. Bruce was hired at Richland by former City Manager, Cindy Reents after an extensive nationwide recruitment effort."

Why he is leaving so abruptly is unknown as the city said no further details would be released at this time.

The city has named Deputy Chief Brigit Clary to immediately fill his role following Bruce's last day Friday.

Richland Mayor Michael Alvarez released this statement:

“We thank Chief Bruce for the leadership and goodwill he brought to our community. We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors. We have appreciated his commitment to national public safety standards,”

His registration was unexpected, according to sources. It is unknown if the numerous recent legislative limits placed on law enforcement in WA state factored into his decision to leave.
