Benton County authorities have identified the 40-year-old man who died in jail Wednesday evening, and said he was being monitored every 30 minutes due to a medical conditiion.

Stephen Flaten was arrested on a narcotics charge, and had meth and heroin on his person when booked into the jail, and he was examined by TRIOS Southridge ER workers prior to being booked due to possibly being under the influence of drugs.

Due to what jail officials say was a medical condition, he was under watch at least every 30 minutes.  Around 5:30pm he was found unresponsive. Jail personnel who attempted to revive him and work on him, as well as other emergency workers, were not able to do so.

He apparently was seen by medical personnel frequently for the two days he was in jail prior to his death, the incident remains under investigation.
