Shocking New Details From Drunk Potato Truck Chase, Crash, and Fire
That wild Sunday night chase of a potentially stolen semi potato truck? Had a lot of moving parts.
The truck was reportedly involved in a hit-and-run collision during the incident.
A 43-year-old Connell man is in the Franklin County Jail after leading cops on a wild chase from Pasco, up Highway 395 and back before stop sticks finally ended his ride.
Zackary Thomas Bailie was allegedly behind the wheel of the large semi potato truck (looks like a dump truck to the non-farm person) around 6:22 PM when reports began to come in about the truck speeding around recklessly.
The truck was reportedly involved in a hit-and-run collision during the incident. Pasco officers moved in quickly and tried to pull the truck over, but Bailie didn't oblige. He continued to drive in large loops around the King City Truckstop area, sometimes on the wrong side of the road.
Finally, with help from Franklin County Deputies, stop sticks were used to blow the right front tire. Pasco PD uses pit maneuvers now instead of the tire-wrecking devices, but a pit would not have stopped the truck.
But after deploying the sticks, the truck headed north to Foster Wells Road, then back down Highway 395 before finally losing a tire or two near the Karchner Street exit. It stopped and caught fire from the friction, and Baillie jumped out.
WHAT DID SUSPECT DO NEXT?
Baillie ran across all the lanes of the highway with Offices in hot pursuit, including K-9 Zador of the Pasco PD. It took three officers and Zador to bring him to the ground after taking a shot from a Taser. Even then, the three had to hold him down while restraint straps were used.
He was evaluated at the scene by Pasco Fire EMS workers, then taken to the Franklin County jail where a plethora of charges awaited him, including DUI. The truck might also have been stolen as well.
NO idea what led to his joyride, but fortunately no one was hurt.
Speaking of bizarre events...
