THIEF RIDES UP ON BIKE STEALS CAR
The latest auto theft being investigated by Kennewick Police occurred at Ron's Food Mart at 1821 South Washington street.
Police didn't say specifically when it occurred, but they're hoping these decent surveillance videos will help provide some clues.
The suspect arrived on a bike, then stole a vehicle parked at the store. Kennewick Police say they're working on a dozen stolen cars in the month of November alone.
IT'S MONOTONOUS BUT THESE TIPS HELP PREVENT THEFT
For the most part, you can prevent your vehicle from being boosted. Lock it, don't leave keys inside, don't store valuables inside or plain sight, and perhaps consider an alarm.
The vast majority of car thefts say Police, are crimes of opportunity, people who don't follow the previously mentioned tips.
By the way, for 2020 Kennewick reported 226 stolen vehicles, a jump from 212 in 2019, and 162 in 2018. Some of that due, yes, in part to COVID. We saw jumps in property crime and burglaries at that time.
And, with the holidays upon us, the holiday where the MOST vehicles are stolen nationally? According to FBI crime data, it's New Year's Day. New Year's Eve came in at number 4, Christmas Eve 8th, and Christmas Day 11th.
