There's been a fair share of Tri-City (Richland, Pasco, Kennewick) football teams who've ventured to the Tacoma Dome for the Gridiron Classic. But not two in the same season.

This weekend both the Kamiakin Braves(3A) and Richland Bombers (4A) will be playing for state football titles. Both are members of the Mid Columbia Conference, Kamiakin in the 3A, Richland 4A, and both won their respective classification titles.

The Bombers path to the Tacoma Dome went through Sunnyside, Bothell and Skyview by scores of 41-0, 49-28 and 35-7. They will play the Camas Papermakers Saturday, December 3rd in the Dome at 7:30pm.  Camas was last there in 2014 when they lost an epic game to Chiawana 27-26.  If they win, it will be the third state title in school history, the Bombers previously won in 1981, and 1999. The school also has a pair of runner-up finishes.

Kamiakin's path to the Tacoma Dome went through Gig Harbor, Bonney Lake, and two-time defending 3A champs Eastside Catholic by scores of 45-0, 37-10 and 30-27. Aside from Bellevue (who's ineligible this year through 2020) O'Day from Seattle and Eastside, Kamiakin is the only other 3A school who's been in the Final Four or final picture since 2010. Kamiakin's other  final appearance was in 1995, they lost.  In 2012 the Braves lost to Bellevue.

Interesting that Richland and Kamiakin did play this season, with the Bombers squeaking out a 21-20 Overtime victory at Neil F. Lampson stadium.

The Braves will be taking on O'Day High School from Seattle Friday night in the Dome at 7:30.

Kennewick has been to the title game twice, Pasco has won several titles, Chiawana has won a title and Kamiakin has been there (lost) in 1995 and 2012.

But if Richland and Kamiakin both win, it will be the first time in Tri-Cities history that two teams from the same league have brought home state title hardware in football.

If you can't make the drive over to the Tacoma Dome, Root Sports NW will be televising the 3A and 4A title games starting at 7:30 Friday and Saturday.
