Was Fatigue Factor in Deadly Head-On Crash in Pasco?
Pasco Police investigators say fatigue may have been a factor in a shocking head-on crash near Road 54 and Argent in Pasco Tuesday night. The vehicles were traveling east and west on Argent.
Around 9:40 PM the crash was reported by surrounding neighbors and other drivers, and Pasco Police and Fire were able to respond almost immediately due to the location.
Investigators say witnesses told them the east-bound driver appeared to strike the west-bound driver head-on, perhaps veering into their lane.
Neither driver sustained life-threatening injuries, both were transported for evaluation are area hospitals. Seat belts and airbags, said Police, prevented more serious injuries.
However, one of the occupants had to be removed, likely cut out of, their vehicle by Pasco Fire responders.
Investigators say it's preliminary, but it appears that fatigue may have been a factor in the crash.
IF that is the case, authorities say if at all possible, don't be driving when exhausted. They know sometimes it's difficult to get a ride, but extreme fatigue produces the same effects on a driver as alcohol. But it can be even more deadly when you fall asleep or even nod off for a second or two behind the wheel.
We've all had that happen at least a time or two; driving along, really tired, and you drift off for a second, then snap back awake with that terrifying jolt of adrenaline and chills, right? Don't do it.
