A power outage mid-day Thursday created some interesting traffic conditions on major routes in Kennewick.

According to the Benton PUD and our news partners KNDU-TV, the power outage was caused by mylar balloons getting tangled in a substation and knocked out numerous blocks. It also affected the traffic lights at Clearwater and Highway 395, Kennewick Ave. and 395, as well as all the intersections west on Clearwater from 395 to Union. The traffic lights went black.

Our coworker captured some of the confusion on video as motorists tried to remember what they're supposed to do at what became "four-way stops." Fortunately, no accidents were reported due to the outage.
