Who knew? The Chicago Cubs are one of the best odds-on favorites to win the World Series this year, perhaps ending that long drought, the longest in baseball. The Giants, because it's an even year, are contenders as well.

According to sbnation.com, the Cubs are considered a slight favorite over the Giants, especially since the Cubbies knocked off the mighty Cardinals in last fall's playoffs. With the Giants penchant for winning the trophy in even years, they have to be in the mix.

The defending champion Royals opened their defense with a 4-3 win over the team they beat last October-November, the Mets. They too, have a strong squad.

Other teams in the top tier include the Boston Red Sox, who are vastly improved, the Toronto Blue Jays, St. Louis (who reloads, they don't rebuild) and the Cleveland Indians could be a contender. The Astros, Mets, Dodgers should also be contending come September and beyond. The Washington Nationals and Pittsburgh Pirates are also good solid teams as well.

The Mariners came in 18th in the prognosticator's guesses, according to oddshark.com. The very last team, longest shot to win it all? The Colorado Rockies. The parent club of our Tri-City Dust Devils, the San Diego Padres, are listed 25th out of 30 teams in most of the preseason picking sites.
