Windstorm brownout conditions are being blamed for a fatal crash about six miles northeast of Moses Lake Tuesday afternoon.

Grant County Deputies say 71-year-old Kelly Korpinen was on a county road near the small hamlet of Ruff, WA near Moses Lake. As she approached brownout conditions and apparently couldn't see the road, she stopped, blocking the northbound lane of the road instead of pulling to the shoulder.

Her 2020 Jeep Cherokee was then struck from behind by a Peterbilt semi driven by 27-year-old Randy Gross of Marlin, WA.  Drugs or alcohol were not a factor in the crash, said Deputies. She was pronounced dead at the scene, Gross was not injured.  Both persons involved were wearing seatbelts, the WSP is continuing the investigation.
