A 34-year-old man in Dalles, OR, is in jail after Oregon State Patrol officers found his 10-year-old son in the driver's seat of their car, apparently helping his father try to get home.

Jose Israel Torres was heavily intoxicated when his SUV was stopped Sunday morning just west of town. An officer had observed the vehicle on a road traveling at a slow rate of speed, failing to maintain a lane of travel (swerving across both lanes of traffic) and occasionally stopping!  The OSP Trooper found Torre's 10 year old son behind the wheel, and his heavily intoxicated father was trying to help the boy steer the SUV!

It gets better. Besides the numerous empty alcohol cans found in the vehicle, when they called Torre's wife to come pick up their son, it was discovered she did not have a valid driver's license, and SHE was cited for that violation. Torre's was hit with numerous charges including -- you guessed it -- no valid driver's license either.   Other relatives were able to come pick up the boy and his mother.

Torres is currently in the Northern Oregon Regional Correctional Facility.
