Virtually ignored by much of the media is the fact that technology is creeping up behind the $15 minimum wage movement, and if trends continue, will render it obsolete. It will be hard to pay somebody that kind of money when their job has been outsourced to a robot.

You've probably seen ShiftWA on Facebook, perhaps online, and at Newstalk 870, we've referenced many of their articles.  They're committed to reversing what they call is "the liberal bias" in news and politics in our state. They've uncovered dozens of examples of the shady politics and even corruption at the state level in Olympia, and are now becoming a reliable source of reference to leading news outfits across the state.

This week, they presented an interesting view of how many low-level, low-skill jobs are slowly but steadily being replaced by incredible technology.  We've seen dozens of stories about automated cooking and preparation machines that will soon be found in fast-food restaurants. They'll do everything from cook a burger to your liking, pile on selected toppings, and even wrap and serve it to you.

There's one company even working to add the cashier's role to the automated system. We see this technology in everything from RedBox, to automated toolbooths, and more.

The different applications for this technology isn't just confined to the fast-food industry.  Soon, many jobs that are considered entry-level will be gone. Some social critics claim this is unfair to people, but it's a natural evolution of technology.  It's being sped up greatly because if the push continues to overpay for entry level jobs, business owners won't have any other choice but to seek alternatives that are far cheaper in the long run.

Well, ShiftWa shared a video about how in the not-so-distant future,  hotel or motel room service could also become a robot's job.

Video courtesy of Scott Sigrist, it shows an autobot charged with delivering the goodies to your room.

The protestors can wave their signs all they want outside of major retailers, or even fast-food establishments here in the Columbia Basin, but behind them is an army of robots who are more than willing to do the job - and for a LOT less money!
