It began before the snow fell, but the Franklin County Sheriff's Department gave its first major public demonstration of drone use Tuesday. This image is from an earlier flight.

The drone flight was done at Fire Station 31 for the public and media, as part of the UAS (drone) program.

In an effort to inform and educate the public, and for transparency, the department says a map of all flights will be published on the sheriff's social media site (Facebook) and made available to the public. These flights will be made available as soon as possible after a flight, provided the information doesn't jeopardize an ongoing investigation.  It's pretty obvious if the officials are conducting a criminal investigation they don't want to publicly announced they're "buzzing" an area where suspected criminal activity is ongoing (such as a pot grow).

More information expected to be coming soon.
