91-Year-Old Driver Causes Head-On Collision Trying to Pass Semi — Oregon Troopers Seek Witnesses [PHOTOS
Oregon State Patrol is having difficulty finding witnesses to recent accident since several appear to have left the scene.
On July 19 two people died in a fatal head-on crash on Highway 97 seven miles north of Madras.
A 91-year-old man from Chula Vista, California was killed when he tried to pass a slower semi-truck on the two lane road. He collided head-on with a Ford Explorer, also killing that driver.
Oregon officials have only been able to interview one witness to the crash, but photos released today by the Oregon State Patrol show a number of vehicles apparently left the scene, including a large, white semi-truck.
The semi driver reportedly left the scene before troopers could identify him as a witness. The photos don't show the company name or other identifying marks on the truck -- only that the license plate is not from Oregon.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the Oregon State Patrol at 541-388-6213 extension 5128.
