It's already been approved in the City of Seattle School District, now Walla Walla wants parents input.

A survey is being conducted by the Walla Walla School District about the possibility of bumping back start times in the morning for classes to 8:30 am for First Period.  This would end school at 4pm, instead of three.

A number of new studies and information suggests that students who receive some additional rest are reportedly better ready to tackle the classroom challenges in school. Those who oppose it say most kids are used to getting up a little earlier during the school year. They also say ending school later puts a crimp in after school activities and athletics, others say it's bad to have school ending with the skies beginning to get dark outside.

For this reason the district is asking for parental input by way of this survey.

The district says over half of it's students, especially in the higher grades, have a class starting at 7:30am. As of November 23rd, paper copies of the survey will be available for pickup at the district office, and also copies of the new Sleep Study upon which this proposal is based.
