For some time we've reported on Police and law enforcement calls that utilized the services of Mental Health Mobile Outreach Professionals.

West Richland and other area agencies say they're looking for more of these workers to assist on calls. These workers, according to WRPD, perform a number of duties:

"On most days they are assigned to ride along with Law Enforcement on patrol in Benton and Franklin Counties and assist us in serving our community through their expertise. They often help deescalate situations, stabilize immediate crises, provide resources and referrals on scene, and have reduced recidivism for those struggling with behavioral health issues. Mobile Outreach Professionals often help connect people to resources that assist in avoiding the criminal justice all together and enter into the mental health system for appropriate supports."

These workers even provide CIT or Crisis Intervention Training for area officers. You do need to have a Master's Degree in Social or Behavioral Science, and either have or be able to obtain a DCR or Designated Crisis Responder Status.

If you fit these criteria, you're encouraged to check with Lourdes Health for more information about the Mobile Outreach Program. It's a chance to put your skills to work on the 'front lines' and directly impact lives.
