Even Conan O'Brien weighed in on the subject, although he shoved his foot waaaay down this throat.  Fact is, the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) is a lot more liberal than most of the left want you to think.

The reason the left is jumping on Indiana's state version of this federal law is because it actually protects religious freedoms of people in the state.  According to the Family Policy Institute of Washington, here's the real reason:

"The left fears laws that protect conscience right and religious liberty because they want to force individuals, businesses, and organizations to do things that violate orthodox religious beliefs. That's the take home lesson in all of this."

Here's some interesting facts about the federal RFRA, upon which all the state versions mirror:

*Both former Senator Barrack Obama and former Representative Jay Inslee (when he was in Congress in 1993) voted IN FAVOR of the RFRA.

*When it was introduced in 1993,  the RFRA passed by nearly a unanimous margin - almost unheard of in Congress these days.

*31 other states have some sort of version of the RFRA, most virtually mirror the federal law.

*When Gov. Inslee boasted he would cut off "official" travel to Indiana because they passed what he felt was a bill intolerant to same-sex couples,  he apparently forgot it was ok to visit a country that routinely abuses and imprisons it's people - that being China. Guess his statement of  "We in Washington stand for equality" doesn't apply to oppressed people in foreign lands he visits?

*The RFRA has been used in the past to uphold the rights of Muslim women to wear face-covering clothing, Muslim men long beards,  allowed Seventh-Day Adventists to collect unemployment even when they refuse to work on Saturdays, and prevent government officials from putting bright safety signs on Amish buggies because it violates their faith.  Sounds pretty liberal to us....

So before you believe all the "experts" going off about how bad laws are that defend religious freedom, get the facts.
