With the departure of former Chief Chris Skinner, who has taken the same position in Eugene, OR, Richland will be choosing a new chief of police soon.

The two candidates to replace him will be available at a public forum to be held Thursday August 30 from 6-8 pm at the Richland Public Library at 955 Northgate Ave.

These two finalists are Albert "Al" Escalera, a Pasco native who has been Chief of Police in Sunnyside since 2014. Prior to that, he was a Captain in the West Richland Department, and has 26 years of Washington State Patrol service.

The other is Dominic Rizzi Jr. of Yakima, who has 35 years of experience. He has been the Yakima Police Chief for the last six years, prior to that he worked 25 years for the Chicago Police Department.

This informal reception will allow citizens to ask questions and meet these candidates. Final interviews will be held on Friday August 31st, with a final decision coming in September.
