Cops Nail Teen Trying to Play Junior Safecracker
Monday morning Kennewick police nailed a 17-year-old boy who was allegedly trying to break in to a safe inside a home.
An alert neighbor noticed suspicious activity near the home next door in the 3300 block of West Hood.
Police arrived around mid morning to find the teen trying to open a safe inside the home. That's where the noise was believed to be coming from. Police did not say what methods he was trying to use to access the safe, but it was obviously noisy enough to attract attention.
The home was surrounded, and police used a bullhorn to call the teen to come out. After about 45 minutes, he finally surrendered. He's now in custody facing burglary charges and attempted theft of a firearm.
