Distracted driving laws may have harsh penalties for people on their cellphones, but phones aren't the only distraction with potentially nasty outcomes.

Sometimes it's as simple as a cupholder. One Oregon driver had a close call after trying to clean her cupholder. Her kids had tossed rocks in it (kids will be kids) and she drove to the shoulder to clear it out. She overcorrected and almost hit another car before swerving hard towards the embankment.

That's when she went 500 feet down. She's okay, she's got some seatbelt burn. But at least she was wearing it.

She was gracious enough to tell Oregon State Police to tell her story as a caution to other drivers.

Cars are big machines, and it's easy to get complacent and distracted. Don't! Big machines can cause big trouble if you're not paying absolute attention.
