The tragic death of a 2 1/2-year old boy in Kennewick Tuesday evening continues to be investigated by Kennewick police, but they say it's a tragic accident.

The boy, who's name was not released, had reportedly run out to greet his mother who had arrived home around 8pm at 505 S. Olympia.   The woman, 25-year-old Mendeck Farah, apparently pushed the gas pedal instead of the brake and struck the boy.  He was dragged several feet underneath the vehicle.

The boy's father was able to get him out from under the 2000 Mercury van, and rushed him to Trios Health Center ER (Formerly Kennewick General Hospital) but he was pronounced dead.

According to a Kennewick police department release:

" The investigation is still on-going however at this point it appears that this was an accident and a tragedy."
