The Finley School District is re-running their levy, hoping this time it passes.

Voters have rejected the last 3

Finley voters have rejected the last 3 levies, including one by a margin of 1 vote. Now, with ballots due by April 22nd., voters in the District will have them arriving in the mail shortly.

Ballots will be sent out beginning April 2nd.  According to the Finley School District:

"The total collection amount for the proposed replacement EP&O Levy, to be collected over a two-year period in 2026 and 2027, is $1,660,000 in 2026 and $1,790,000 in 2027, following the end of the current levy in 2025. The estimated tax rates are:

  • $1.89/$1,000 of assessed value in 2026
  • $1.99/$1,000 of assessed value in 2027
It is important to remember that if property values rise, the tax rate is adjusted downward. The district cannot collect more than the total collection amounts listed above and approved by the voters."
One of the challenges faced by the school district is the loss of property tax revenue from the county from the Lineage Logistic Warehouse that burned in 2024.  The fire completely gutted the facility, and initial reports indicate it's not likely it will be rebuilt due to environmental and other issues.

The large property provided a significant amount of tax revenue toward the District. If the levy passes, the District will also receive state matching funds.  If it fails, a wide variety of programs will be reduced or eliminated, ranging from music to athletics and others.
