Former Tri-Tech Firefighting Student Honored for Saving Lives

Like many other events, award ceremonies and honor award presentations were put off due to COVID-19.

But finally, a former Tri-Tech Skills Center Firefighting student is being honored for his role in saving the life of a woman and baby near Benton City last October.

As reported by our news partner KNDU-TV,  Last Oct. 23, around 3AM, on Sloan Court near Benton City, a fire was called in. Benton County Fire District 1 responded, and the former Tri-Tech Student, Jorge Guerrero, was instrumental in helping to rescue a woman and baby inside the home.

Guerrero went through the Tri-Tech program, did numerous ride-alongs with A-Shift at Fire Station One in Kennewick; then became one of many volunteer firefighters with the County District 1.

Yesterday, the Kennewick Firefighters presented him with a special medal of valor for his role in helping save the woman and child.

The fire consumed the building, a total of 8 people were affected, but none sustained any injuries. It took a while, due to COVID, to get him this award, but it's richly deserved.

And, perhaps another reason why (again!) the role the Tri-Tech Skills Center plays for high school youth all over the Mid-Columbia is so important.
