The Kamiakin Braves slayed two giants on the way to their first state football title in school history. You might not realize just how big this was.

The Braves, like some other Mid-Columbia schools, have consistently been a winning program, league titles, playoffs. But in their run to the 2016 title, they knocked off two perennial powers who have been nationally ranked.

In looking at the Washington state 3A playoff records, since 2010 only four schools have appeared in the state title game.  Bellevue (10 titles) and Eastside Catholic (2 titles) have dominated the last 7 years.

From 2012 to 2015 Eastside and Bellevue played each other four times in a row in the title game, each winning two. The only other schools who have appeared in the game were O'Dea and Kamiakin. Counting their game last Friday, they have each been to the title game twice since 2010. In the semi-final round, Eastside was seeking their fifth straight trip to Tacoma, Since 2010, O'Dea had finished 2nd (2011), semi-finals in 2013, and advanced to second round once as well.

But considering the stranglehold these schools have had on the playoffs, Kamiakin truly knocked off some giants with their performance, gaining their first championship. Here's a few peeks behind the scenes of their playoff run.
