Keep Cool in the Lower Valley! Another Public Pool Has Re-Opened!
With another heatwave expected to clobber the Yakima Valley next week, the timing could not be better for an official announcement that we received from the City of Toppenish earlier today.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic and some budgetary issues, the public swimming pool in Toppenish (20 Asotin Ave.) is scheduled to re-open beginning Monday, August 9th. Better late than never, right?!?!
The pool, unfortunately, has not been open at all this year. It took a partnership between the Toppenish School District, the Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic, the Toppenish Community Foundation along with the city to devise a plan to get the pool back up and running.
The pool's new manager will be Leanne Galaviz who took a crash-course in running the operation from the former Toppenish Parks and Recreation Director James Cole. Cole came out of retirement to specifically help with re-opening the aquatic center. Glaviz said, "Our community deserves a huge 'thank you'".
