Deputies, Dive Rescue Saves Struggling Swimmer from Columbia
Thanks to the efforts of Columbia Basin Dive Rescue and Benton County Sheriff's Deputies, a woman was quite possibly saved from drowning Thursday afternoon.
A woman swimmer was struggling to get back to shore
Thursday afternoon, a woman was swimming in the Columbia River and was trying to get back to shore near the area where Edison Street meets Paul Parish Drive, which is the new name for Columbia Park Trail.
Despite her efforts, she was not able to fight the current and was getting tired rapidly.
An emergency call brought Benton County Deputies, Kennewick Police, Kennewick Fire units, and Columbia Basin Dive Rescue. Thanks to their combined efforts, she was safely rescued and didn't require any medical attention, other than being exhausted.
Deputies remind people to know their limitations in the water
The BCSO says all swimmers should know how well they are able to handle themselves in water, especially when it's over their head, and to NOT take any risks or push themselves beyond their swimming capabilities.
