A 34-year-old man is in even more hot water after slipping out of his handcuffs following a DUI arrest in Kennewick Tuesday night.

Jacob Zorich of Kennewick was pulled over by an officer who observed him driving on Canal Drive near North Perry Street at speeds near or just above 60MPH around 11:15 PM.  The Officer was able to stop him near Canal and Ely, which is been the area where several DUI speeders have been clocked and apprehended over the last few months.

The traffic stop yielded probable cause for impairment (DUI) and Zorich was taken into custody. That's where the fun began.

He was taken to an area hospital for a blood draw, which is often done when other substances besides alcohol are also suspected. As the officer was completing the paperwork for the warrant for the draw, Zorich apparently slipped out of his handcuffs and walked out of his hospital room in the ER.

The Officer demanded he return to the room, but as he moved towards him to re-cuff him, Zorich fled out the back doors of the hospital. After a short chase, he was caught and returned to the room.

So now, besides, DUI and Speeding charges, he is now facing an additional Resisting Arrest charge. Kennewick Police say alcohol, or combinations of alcohol, drugs and/or pot usually lead to people making poor choices--especially when it comes to driving.

And, he will have the joy of getting his towed vehicle out of impound, which can range up to several hundred dollars depending upon the terms of storage.
