Thanks to some updated digital closed circuit surveillance cameras, and sharp-eyed police, two young boys have their scooters back, and two middle-school kids are in deep doo-doo.

Tuesday afternoon, two boys reported their razor scooters were stolen from outside the downtown Kennewick Public Library near Keewaydin Park, across from Kennewick High.

But what the teen suspects didn't know was, they were captured on closed-circuit surveillance TV with very sharp imagery, and police were able to make a strong identification. The pictures were forwarded to the Kennewick School District resource officers, who identified them as middle school students, brothers ages 12 and 14.

Then around 9pm last night, the original reporting police officer saw the two boys riding the stolen scooters near 1st. and Washington Streets. The two were stopped and 'detained' by the officer and admitted to the theft. The scooters returned to their owners, and the suspects will be charged in juvenile court with theft.  Yay!

Kudos to the library for making sure they have a well working security system, and the Kennewick Police Department for treating even 'minor' cases with the same effort as major ones.
