For the last 2 years landlords throughout the state have been looking for some help after the governor suspended evictions during the pandemic. Many landlords have already lost properties while others are close to financial problems.

They've been looking for help and now they're learning rental assistance money is on the way to Yakima County. Officials at Catholic Charities in Yakima say congress recently approved a $46 billion rental relief package, with $28 million of that dedicated to the Yakima Valley. Catholic Charities is one of five agencies in Yakima selected to distribute the funds which will pay rent debt directly to landlords.

A LOTTERY TYPE SYSTEM WILL BE USED TO DISTRIBUTE THE FUNDING

A press release says to "ensure fair distribution of funds, rental assistance will be given through a lottery-type system. Each week through December Yakima County will select from the pool of applicants to distribute funds. This is to ensure no one agency-or landlord-receives all of the funds before others get the opportunity to apply. Renters can receive assistance for up to 12 months of rental payments."
