Egg on the face of the New Republic magazine:

Recently Obama sat for an interview with The New Republic in which he said he goes skeet shooting "all the time" at Camp David. The statement was in response to being asked if he'd ever fired a gun. Newstalk 870 shared this article, which created a whirlwind of scorn and criticism across the country over Obama's apparent two-faced stance on guns.

To perhaps add credibility to the story, the publication tweeted a photo that allegedly showed Obama shooting. Turns out it was FAKE!

The New Republic realized its mistake after discovering the photo was not hosted by the official White House website. They quickly deleted it and posted a comment on the social media site that read,  "Twitter sometimes leads to quick accidents."

Apparently the magazine obtained or saw the picture on Twitter, believed it was official, and tried to use it to prove Obama's comment about skeet shooting was true. The New Republic did not divulge the exact Twitter source where the photo was obtained, the White House had no official comment.
