Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber is making a trip to Pendleton to visit the offices of the InterMountain Education Service March 19 to learn more the Eastern Promise, Early Leaning Initiative and the Umatilla County Wraparound.

The Eastern Promise initiative is a collaborative effort between several colleges and school districts to offer high school students college-level courses. The Early Learning Initiatives are aimed at better preparing children for kindergarten and include programs like Head Start.

The Umatilla County Wraparound program targets children and adolescents with complex behavioral needs. This program is a collaborative effort between schools, health care providers, social services, emergency personnel, parents and community members.

The governor’s brief stop will involve a roundtable discussion with teachers, students and superintendents.
