Ref. 90 Seeks to Stop Controversial State Mandated Sex Ed Course
Senate Bill 5395 requires every public school in the state to provide “comprehensive sexual health education” to each student by the 2022-23 school year.
Rep. Monica Stonier, the bill’s sponsor, says, “We are teaching them the skills they need to have healthy relationships in an age-appropriate way.”
Stonier is also the Rep who tried to push for restaurants being banned from listing soda beverages on their menus, although they could still sell them. She just wanted them 'off'the menu. She was also an outspoken supporter of the recently passed plastic shopping bag ban.
Mindie Wirth is a Washington mom who is among those who vehemently disagree with the mandatory curriculum and she filed Referendum 90 -which would basically repeal Senate Bill 5395- two weeks before the Governor signed the Bill.
The controversial measure was signed into law my Governor Jay Inslee on March 27th of this year over the protestations of thousands of State residents.
Ms Wirth was a guest on KIT's Morning News program (5/21/20) to say time is running out on a drive to collect more than 120-thousand signatures to get Referendum 90 on the ballot.
