Rep. Newhouse Demands Hearing on Biden Border Situation

  “Just yesterday, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) agents and Army National Guard members encountered 5,204 individuals illegally crossing the border, adding to the more than 200,000 illegal border crossings so far this year.”--Rep Dan Newhouse and House Republicans.

That was part of the letter Rep. Dan Newhouse and House GOP members sent to the Chair of the House Appropriations Committee, Rosa DeLauro, demanding a hearing on the security and humanitarian crisis on the US Border with Mexico.

After Biden 'stopped' construction of the border wall in January via Executive Order and made a number of other policy changes, the number of illegal crossings has overwhelmed the area. Several checkpoints have actually shut down this week due to inability to 'process' illegals crossing over.

The letter read on in part:

"Illegal border crossings have skyrocketed this past month and are set to exceed the record-breaking numbers we saw in 2019. Just yesterday, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) agents and Army National Guard members encountered 4,150 individuals illegally crossing the border, adding to the more than 200,000 illegal border crossings so far this year."

Another large factor cited was Biden ending the MPP or Migrant Protection Protocols (the 'stay in Mexico' program) allowing thousands more to stream over the border, sometimes overwhelming checkpoints.

The Trump-era MPP had significantly driven down the numbers of illegals, and combined with the ongoing border work, was allowing the Border Patrol and ICE to gradually begin to reel in the issues created by massive streams of people coming over.

Now, what officials say is a security and humanitarian crisis is occuring, and GOP leaders demand a hearing to address it.
