Most of the stories of strange things coming across our southern border are just that...from Mexico to the US.

This one is different, ammo smuggling into Mexico

The US Customs and Border Patrol reports this week thousands of rounds of undeclared ammunition were seized at the Hidalgo International Bridge near Mission Texas after a suspicious sedan was detained.

CBP reports that last Thursday, October 13th. a Nissan Sentra sedan was heading to Mexico when it was set aside for further inspection. The car, driven by a Mexican citizen, was scanned with devices CBP call NII, or non-intrusive inspection tools.

What they found inside was rather eye-opening. According to CBP:

" After physically inspecting the vehicle, officers discovered a total of 2,399 rounds of ammunition in a variety of calibers, including .45 ACP, 28mm, 44 REM, .38, .45mm, and 28mm."

That's not exactly a small amount, and some of the calibers were interesting. According to CBP:

"CBP OFO seized the ammunition and vehicle, arrested the driver and the case remains under investigation by special agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI)."

No further information was released, but one cannot wonder if the ammo was going to end up with people who probably should not have it?
