Retail theft is bad enough, but this takes it to another level.

Daytime thief steals bats from D Bat

D Bat Columbia Basin is a busy place, hundreds of athletes hit in their cages, practice baseball, softball, and even golf. Our daughter has a membership there and loves to hit round after round in the cages on the softball machine. Her club softball team has had some practices and hitting sessions there. It's located at 6416 West Hood, just off Kellogg in Kennewick.

Thursday, May 26, a man walked in around 5:16 PM, went straight to one of the displays closest to the entrance, and grabbed three expensive baseball bats. He then quickly slipped out.  We reached out to the management, and they said the suspect had a getaway driver waiting for him by the side of the building. They sped away in a white Nissan Altima with no visible license plate.

Several customers ran outside and tried to get a better description of the car, but without the plates that's difficult.

The three bats taken were worth $329 each.

D Bat told us the perp took three Marucci baseball bats, each priced at $329, for a total loss of just under $990.  Now, most retailers do have some sort of insurance, but it's the idea behind this. Who would boldly steal from a facility that provides a great service for athletes all over SE WA and NE OR? All three of the bats were the same model.

Besides their training complex of cages, pitching tunnels, staff lessons, clinics, and more, they're also an equipment vendor. They carry a lot of softball and baseball gloves, batting gloves, and bats you won't find in retail stores. If you do find them in stores, they're usually more spendy.

They, and Police, will be paying close attention to a wide variety of online for-sale sites in the coming days to see if they pop up.

We've added, courtesy of D Bat, a picture of the getaway vehicle. From surveillance camera.
