The Tri-City Americans were going to have a new head coach, we knew that.

Who it will be, we will find out Saturday. But first.

What Led to Coaching Change?

Less than a month ago, the team announced that Head Coach Kelly Buchberger would not be returning to the team for the 2021-22 season.

Buchberger's teams went 58-70-9-3, including a 7-12 mark during the COVID-reduced season this spring. The team 'lost' 5 games (not played) due to a virus lock-down, per WHL and CHL protocol. Including this year, he coached the Americans for 3 seasons. His best was his first year when the team went 34-26-5-1 and lost in the 1st round of the WHL Playoffs. The numbers are wins, losses, overtime losses, shootout losses.
