7 different Grant and Adams County Fire agencies joined to battle a massive fire at the Washington Potato Plant in Warden Thursday evening.

According to the Grant County Sheriff's Office, the blaze was first reported around 5:30PM, it began in the plant's dehydrator. It's a massive machine used to dry out potatoes for a variety of uses, such as au gratin and others; it uses heat.

Concerns over the possiblity of ammonia tanks exploding at the plant led to area evacations by citizens, but they were called off early Friday morning. Grant County Sheriff's officials say people are returning to homes, the fire is under control but mop up efforts continue.

Venting safety systems in the tanks prevented the ammonia from exploding, said officials.

No word as to how much damage was done to the plant.  This video courtesy of the Grant County Sheriff's Office.
