The Pacific Northwest Pest Alert Network (PNPAN) has sent out information that a Western Cherry Fruit Fly has been captured in a trap in Western Idaho.

Western Cherry Fruit Flies damage the fruit themselves

The Western Cherry Fruit Fly damages drops by laying larvae that end up developing inside growing cherries. They are commonly treated with insecticides.  According to the PNPAN:

"If treatment has not begun by ag producers, it should begin now."

The Western fly is similar to the Eastern fly found in other parts of the US, they all can cause significant damage to cherry crops.
