A 19-year-old Weston, Oregon man has died from injuries sustained in a near head-on collision last Thursday.

The crash occurred about two miles from the intersection of Highway 11 and Highway 204 in Umatilla County, a few miles east of Athena.  Montana Rex Batterton of Weston was Westbound on Highway 204 when his 1998 Jeep Cherokee collided nearly head-on with a Chevy Silverado pickup driven by 66-year-old Harrell R. Phillips of Athena.

The 8:52 pm accident resulted in Batterton, Phillips and a male passenger in the truck having to be extricated from the wreckage with serious injuries. Phillips and his passenger were using safety restraints,  Oregon State Patrol officials have not said if Batterton was.

Batterton was taken to Providence St. Marys Medical Center in Walla Walla,  then airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he died late Tuesday.

Other accident details have not been released pending further investigation.
