After being called the MOST bicycle-friendly state in the U.S., another organization has named a Washington city one of the WORST for traffic!
INRIX, a traffic study and data collection group, has just released a list of the 10 Worst American cities for traffic conditions. According to the report in USA Today, Seattle is in the top ten.

The criteria used to determine who has the worst driving conditions included:

  • percentage of residents who drive to work
  • population density (how many people per square mile)
  • average length of commute
  • number of vehicles on the road

The 10 worst are as follows:

  • No. 10 Boston
  • No. 9 Washington D.C.
  • No. 8 Seattle
  • No. 7 San Jose
  • No. 6 Bridgeport, CT
  • No. 5 New York
  • No. 4 Austin
  • No. 3 San Francisco
  • No. 2 Honolulu
  • No. 1 Los Angeles

The study noted a nine-mile-long, southbound section of I-5 is rated one of the most congested stretches of highway in the U.S. New tolls on nearby Highway 520 have also increased Seattle's traffic. INRIX only measures major U.S. metropolitan areas.
