It’s Official–Richland Names new Police Chief Monday
When Richland Police Captain Brigit Clary was named as interim chief to replace the abruptly retiring John Bruce, many believed she would stay in that position.
Richland names 11th Police Chief in City's history Monday
Richland City Manager Jon Amundson made the formal announcement Monday afternoon, and Captain Clary will become the 11th Chief in Richland City history, and the first woman to lead the department.
Clary, who joined the RPD in 2017, has been in law enforcement for 24 years, and Amundson says she brings a wealth of experience and leadership to the position:
"Clary began her career as a Provisional Officer in Ellensburg, WA. She was with the Port of Seattle Police Department for several years before going to the Federal Way Police Department as a lateral, where she served for the majority of her career before coming to Richland. Clary holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Central Washington University, majoring in Law and Justice and Sociology."
She will lead a contingent of 120 officers in various departments, and Monday, April 18th is her first official day on the job.
Clary was named interim chief when former leader John Bruce abruptly announced his resignation-departure in January. We still do not have a lot of specifics as to why he left the city.
