North Carolina is the latest state to find itself in a battle over transgender bathrooms and other private facilities, but many don't know the past history of the man who is leading the charge.

According to the Charlotte Observer newspaper and Breitbart.com, Chad Sevearance is the chairman of the Charlotte Business Guild. They're a group that describes themselves as follows:

“a network of LGBT professionals, business owners, employees and individuals in the Charlotte area who meet to nurture a network of business contacts; encourage fellowship and support among community business, professional and charitable pursuits; and provide and promote positive role models in the LGBT community.”

He is also the leader of the effort to overturn North Carolina's ban on transgender bathrooms, locker rooms and dressing room facilities. The Department of Justice has also threatened legal action against the state, but the Governor will not budge.

However, the Charlotte Observer and Breitbart have confirmed, by way of documents and court records, that Servearance is also a convicted sex offender.

In 1998, he worked as a youth minister, and was accused of luring younger men to his apartment, showing them pornography and talking to them about sex. One boy woke up and said he found Servearance was fondling him. After charges were filed, he was convicted in 2000 on one count of sexual molestation of a minor.

Reporters and court documents confirm this Chad Servearance often quoted over the transgender bathroom issue, and leading the fight to overturn the ban, is the same person convicted of the sex charges.

Since this news first broke this week, both Servearance's and the Charlotte Business Guild's social media pages have been disabled.
