In addition to being sworn in Tuesday, and being assigned to several committees,  newly-elected WA state Representative Dan Newhouse also appeared to put his money where his mouth is.  Here, he is seen with House Speaker John Boehner during his swearing in ceremony in D.C.

As the 114th. Congress kicked off the legislative session,  Newhouse was named to several positions, according to a news release:

"Rep. Newhouse has been assigned to three committees with jurisdiction on critical legislative issues for Central Washington: the Committees on Agriculture; Natural Resources; and Science, Space & Technology."

It appears he will take up where retiring Rep. Doc Hastings left off,  very similar positions held or chaired by Hastings.

Newhouse also co-sponsored several bills that were formally introduced to start the session, including one that would repeal Obamacare, and one that would scrap our existing tax code.  Details of the Obamacare bill most likely involves defunding the program to the point where it becomes meaningless and will just "dry up" and blow away as unenforceable.

How far these bills get in Congress is up to the other House members and beyond, but Newhouse has upheld his campaign promises to work get rid of the Affordable Care Act, and attempt to achieve meaningful tax reform.

This was an important step for the first-term Representative, as many Clint Didier supporters in the 4th District were watching very carefully what Newhouse would do when he got to Washington D.C.

Newhouse won a very narrow victory over Didier in what became a bitterly contested campaign for Hasting's seat in Congress.
