The event organizer is a person who's been associated with several other protests in our area. Event statement on Facebook disparages the 4th of July, and says Junteenth, June 19 1865 is the real Independence Day for All Americans, "not the whitewashed narrative of July 4 1776."
There are statutes on the City of Kennewick books that require permits for a variety of events, those that involve parades, marches, protests or stationary large group gatherings. No permit was sought or given to legally allow the event to take place.
Tuesday morning, Pasco Schools released the following statement about the March 14th Walk Out marches that will take place at a number of schools across the country. From Public Affairs Director Shane Edinger:

Some say the letter was not strongly worded enough, but opponents of a new pot shop being built inside West Richland on a parcel of land not annexed by the city say it's a good start.
