WA Utilities Commission Denies Puget Sound Energy Rate Increase Request
Saying an additional rate increase would be unjust an unreasonable for consumers, the UTC denied the request.
Puget Sound Energy sought to increase rates to bring in an extra $215 million
The rate increase was in addition to one that had already been approved in January of 2025.
PSE said the request, which would bring in an additional $215 million over the next two years. The company said it was necessary to improve credit ratings, raise cash and increase operations.

However, the UTC said PSE failed to meet the standard for reconsideration. PSE is the largest utility in the state, providing energy to 1.2 million people in 8 counties, and natural gas to consumers in six others. In 2024 PSE was part of a controversial legislative bill that would pass large increases onto consumers as part of a 'forced' conversion off of natural gas.
