Kennewick police are still trying to find out why an 18-year-old driver drove straight through a roundabout, instead of curving through it Saturday.

That evening, police were called to the intersection of 4th. and Kellogg. They found an eastbound white SUV that had apparently tried to drive straight through the roundabout.

The vehicle sustained extensive damage, and was launched into the air and then rolled, ejecting the driver. An 18-year-old female passenger was also injured, suffering from facial lacerations.

Both people were taken to TRIOS Southridge ER, the driver with what were said to be serious injuries.

The accident is still under investigation. Some reports indicate the driver possibly fell asleep behind the wheel, but that has NOT been confirmed.
