The WSDA Block Grant Program is designed for ag programs that increase the competitiveness of WA state specialty crops. Now the application period is open.

Deadline for Block Grant Applications is October 15

Specialty crops in WA are defined by the WSDA as fruits, tree nuts, dried fruit, vegetables, horticulture and other related products.

The WSDA is now taking proposals for block grants to help develop these programs. WSDA says they will range from $25,000 to $250,000 in size, and projects may last as long as 3 years. WSDA also said:

"Non-profit and for-profit organizations; local, state, federal, and Tribal government entities; and public and private colleges and universities are eligible to apply. Specialty crops include fruits and vegetables, tree nuts, dried fruits, horticulture, and nursery crops (including floriculture). Also eligible are specialty crop plants which are cultivated for food, medicinal purposes, or beautification.   Processed specialty crops should consist of more than 50 percent of the specialty crop by weight, to be eligible."
