A similar effort in the Tri-Cities was voted down not long ago, how will it fare in Yakima?

The deal would be a joint venture between the City and the Yakima Family  YMCA.  The city would provide $4.6 million of the project, with the rest being raised by the YMCA. They would also assume responsibility for any additional costs or project over-runs.

City officials plan to discuss the plan this week at their meeting, a final version of the proposal is expected to be ready for potential approval by October 20th.

According to sources, the plan has largely been met with widespread approval. The facility would have a lap pool, recreational pool, and a warm water therapy pool. It would be connected to a fitness center that the YMCA would finance in a separate deal.
