Originally officials with Simon Properties had hoped to keep Columbia Center Mall open, but after a number of businesses chose to independently close (including Macy's) the mall shut it's doors at 7PM Wednesday night, temporarily.  Normally, weeknights, the mall stays open until 9PM.

According to officials after consulting with state and local health officials, they felt it was best to shut the doors for a while, to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Simon Properties will also close it's Premium Outlets and Simon Mills across the country. Reports say another contributing factor was with the number of stores in the mall choosing to close (their own corporate decisions) it did not make sense to keep the mall open.

The closure will remain in effect until March 29.
