The license to prescribe medications for a Walla Walla doctor has been suspended immediately by the Washington State Department of Health after one of the patients he prescribed medications for died.

Dr. Gerald Craigg is accused of over-prescribing medications according to the Department:

"...(Dr. Craigg)... prescribed a combination of high-doses of methadone, other narcotics, and benzodiazepines to multiple patients without the necessary evaluations, monitoring, or treatment plans. Craigg also didn’t have enough training to prescribe the high doses of narcotics that he prescribed, and didn’t get consultations from pain management experts. In the case of the patient who died, charges state that Craigg inappropriately prescribed for the patient and then provided incorrect dosing instructions to the patient’s caregivers."

He has 20 days to respond to the charges.
